Saturday, 8 June 2026 marks a signature event: it is the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Friends of Wyperfeld, following their first successful campout on the Queen’s Birthday Weekend in 1976. On this page we reproduce  a range of  historical and contemporary materials are testament to the enthusiasm, persistence and expert knowledge of the Friends.

The group was the second Friends group to be formally affiliated with the Victorian National Parks Association, after Friends of the Organ Pipes in 1972.

The book Wyperfeld: The history of Station and Settlement and the Flora and Fauna of Wyperfeld National Park by former school teacher Terri Allen and published by the  Rainbow Historical Society in 1975 then reprinted in 1977. Terri Allen has given permission to PaRC to republish this  benchmark report.
